Case Intake and Field Operations Platform
TYPE Foundation Flagship Project
A real-world digital platform built to help nonprofit volunteers serve families faster, communicate more effectively, and operate with better information.

From manual intake to a connected service platform
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Catholic nonprofit organization dedicated to serving people and families in need. At the Guadalupe Conference in Doral, the service process once depended heavily on manual coordination, fragmented communication, and volunteer availability.
SVDPApp was created to transform that experience. It combines digital intake, mobile field operations, volunteer workflows, private communication, approvals, event support, and data capture into a single operating environment.
The objective was never simply to build an app. The objective was to redesign how assistance moves from a neighbor’s request to a volunteer’s action.
The Challenge
Community organizations often operate with limited staff, volunteer-driven processes, and disconnected tools. That creates friction at the exact moment a person is asking for help.
- Requests may arrive through different channels.
- Volunteers need to coordinate visits, approvals, communication, and follow-up.
- Neighbors may not know where their request stands.
- Leadership needs reliable data without adding administrative work.
- High demand can overwhelm a process designed around phone calls, paper, email, and spreadsheets.
The Solution
SVDPApp creates a connected workflow around the people being served and the volunteers serving them.
- Self-service digital assistance requests.
- Volunteer onboarding and field workflows.
- Private communication between neighbors and volunteers.
- Administrative review and approval.
- Queues, notifications, events, and QR-enabled participation.
- Structured data capture for reporting and analytics.
- Mobile access for iOS and Android.
How the service flow works
The platform connects the full service journey—from the first request for help through volunteer action, approval, communication, and follow-up.
1. Neighbor Intake
A person or family submits an assistance request and provides the information needed to begin the process.
2. Conference Review
The conference receives the request, places it into the appropriate workflow, and assigns or routes it for action.
3. Volunteer Action
Volunteers communicate, coordinate visits or assistance, document activity, and move the case forward from the field.
4. Assistance & Follow-up
Approvals, service delivery, status updates, events, and follow-up are recorded in a more consistent and visible process.
A platform, not a single feature
SVDPApp evolved into a broad operational platform with dozens of interconnected capabilities and more than one hundred application screens.
Intake & Case Flow
Digital intake, case queues, approvals, status tracking, volunteer workflows, and administrative controls.
Communication & Coordination
Private chat, notifications, field coordination, geolocation-enabled workflows, and volunteer communication.
Events & Community Operations
Event creation, invitations, QR participation, mobile administration, and support for high-volume community distributions.
Built and used in the real world
The value of the project is not theoretical. The platform has been used to support a real nonprofit operation serving thousands of families.
The application matured through continuous use, feedback, operational needs, and expansion of the service model. That experience is one of the most important assets behind TYPE Foundation’s future work.
Technology designed to scale beyond one conference
Mobile Experience
Native and cross-platform mobile experiences supporting neighbors, visitors, volunteers, and administrators.
Cloud & API Services
AWS-hosted backend services, APIs, database infrastructure, email services, authentication, and reusable application services.
Data & Analytics
Structured operational data that can support reporting, analytics, service measurement, and future integrations with broader case-management systems.
Technology should adapt to people—not require people to adapt to technology.
The next evolution of SVDPApp is to make sophisticated workflows easier to use through natural conversation.
An older volunteer should not have to remember where every screen, field, or menu is located. The volunteer should be able to say, for example, “Create a food distribution event next Saturday for 150 families”, and the system should guide the user through any missing information, confirm the action, and execute the workflow safely.
A neighbor seeking help should be able to explain a need naturally, while an AI-assisted intake experience captures the structured information required by the organization.
This concept is becoming the foundation for a second TYPE Foundation initiative: a reusable Conversational Access Platform that can sit above complex nonprofit systems while preserving permissions, confirmations, validation, and a complete audit trail.
Help us expand what is already working.
SVDPApp demonstrates what becomes possible when technology is designed around service. The next step is to expand the platform, strengthen its multi-conference capabilities, and make advanced technology easier for volunteers and neighbors to use.
